I’m Back: Why I Quit My 7-Figure Creator Business.

The Decision to LEAVE

In a world where social media presence is often equated with success, making the bold choice to step back at the peak of one's career is unheard of.

Yet, this is exactly what I did.

Despite having a significant following on YouTube and Instagram, and a multi-million dollar digital course business, I chose to leave it all behind and go… ghost mode.

This was nearly a year ago.

Now I’m back feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and incredibly introspective on the journey I’ve gone through.

Reflecting on this journey revealed to me the four traps of entrepreneurship that led me to unfulfillment and burnout, thus leading to my decision to take a sabbatical.

The Journey Begins

My journey into the digital world began in 2018, post my resignation from a corporate job at L’Oreal.

Inspired by early YouTubers and driven by a passion to create, I embarked on a path that would soon evolve from content creation to online coaching and eventually to managing a growing business.

It was a journey marked by rapid growth, learning, and the realization that success could sometimes lead to unforeseen traps that many entrepreneurs like myself, if not careful, can get caught up in.

The Traps of Entrepreneurship

  1. The Comparison Trap: The incessant need to measure up to others, compromising one's sense of self.

  2. The Scale Trap: The compulsion to continuously expand the business, often at the expense of personal values and happiness.

  3. The Sunk Cost Trap: The difficulty in pivoting or quitting due to the significant investments of time and resources already made.

  4. The Identity Trap: Losing sight of oneself amidst the pursuit of success and recognition.

Embracing a Sabbatical

The decision to take a year off was not made lightly. It involved difficult conversations, ending business partnerships, and likely disappointing many people.

Yet this period of reflection and disconnection from the digital world allowed me to realign with my passions, cultivate meaningful relationships, and regain a sense of purpose in my work.

Lessons Learned and the Path Forward

The sabbatical taught me the importance of prioritizing peace, simplicity, and authenticity over relentless pursuit of success. It highlighted the need to redefine success on my own terms, focusing on what brings genuine happiness and fulfillment.

A New Chapter

Moving forward, I choose to embrace creativity with simplicity, focusing on projects that align with my values and allow for a balanced life.

The pillars guiding how I want to operate in this season of my life and business are clear: to feel good, have fun, do less, and earn enough.
